Founded by Henry de Lacy, earl of Lincoln, in 1282-95, the town walls and castle of Denbigh were erected simultaneously. The walls are one of the most complete circuits in Britain but now they encase a largely open triangular area, after the town migrated onto the flatter ground below. Flanked by two twin towered gatehouses and four other towers, its north-east section supports a preserved wall-walk and is an attractive walk, with very fine views. Owned by Cadw, the wall-walk is open, Monday 9:30-7:00pm, Wednesday 9:30-5:00pm, Thursday 1:00-5:00pm, Saturday 9:30-12:30pm.
